There are some things I can't understand
In the chess court those who are good play for money. Only a dollar on a game won, but it's enough for a burger or something to drink. Most of the guys out there are real thinkers and chess is a way for them to keep their mind sharp. Some how in this mix of cynical genius' Barry is considered a dear friend amongst them. Sparrow told me that Barry is bipolar which would explain his occasion outburst and rants but it doesn't explain the fact that nothing he says makes sense. I don't understand how all of the other guys living on the street who have lost touch with reality are not allowed in the chess court except Barry. He's not only allowed but he's loved. I witnessed an encounter today that has left me puzzled. After a day of winning, LJ had "a pocket full of money", which amounted to less than $10 but according to his perspective, he was next to rich. (Not rich enough however to turn down food when I offered it to him) Anyway, LJ reaches in his pocket and hands Barry a dollar. Barry gets so excited! He paraded around the park announcing that he had a dollar and would play whoever was willing. LJ said "I might as well have thrown that dollar away cause he's no good, he's just gonna loose." But it made Barry so happy. Deep down they view Barry as more than a friend, they care for him as a brother. I saw Jesus through LJ tonight. He hangs out with a man who is less than himself and gives him things he doesn't deserve, including love which he cannot return.
