Just call me Fanny

One morning I ran down to the store to pick up a hair clip. I have learned by now that no errand, no matter how short or insignificant will be quick. This day reiterated this lesson. While in the store this lady Ms. Herschel "Just call me Fanny" came up to me and gave me a little square of white cloth. She told me to keep it in my pocket and it would keep the demons away. Of course I couldn't just take the cloth and let that be the end of it. I had to enquire as to why she believed this? She told me her testimony of having cancer in 1996. She fasted and prayed for 3 days and the Lord healed her. Ever since, she's been cutting these pieces of cloth and handing them out. I couldn't understand how she acknowledged that it was the Lord's power that healed her but thought that a piece of cloth would contain such power? I talked to her for a few more minutes, never getting the answer I sought. I asked for a picture with her. She was delighted! She wanted me to send her a copy but instead Anna and I went next door to CVS and printed one out. Then she gave me a little bottle of "blessed" oil. She said it was really special oil and I wondered if it was so special why she hadn't given it to me earlier? The best part of the story I think is later that day my mom's trunk got stuck. She said "If only I had some oil or something." Like Mary Poppins, I pulled out Ms. Fanny's "blessed" oil and it did the trick. I may have been prone to skepticism when Ms. Fanny gave me the cloth and oil but at that moment I saw a God who provides in ways more creative than I could ever fathom.
