Christmas Dinner

Tonight was Trinity Vineyard's Christmas dinner for the homeless of Atlanta. I was super excited to see my friends from the park and introduce them to my other friends. I was also excited for the guys to see that there are other people with the same heart and mindset as me. It proved to be a wonderful evening. With 37 degree weather and rain, volunteers from Trinity still put a lot into decorating the tables with table cloths, wreaths and candles. We served our guest on ceramic plates, offered refills, deserts and gave them blankets and handwritten Christmas cards with McDonald's gift cards in them. After dinner a group of Carolers performed. The volunteers are instructed to dine WITH our guest, not just serve them. We had conversations, laughed and made friends. Before the dinner started I was standing with one of my friends from the park, Barry. He asked me "Which one of these handsomes is yours?" I laughed and said none of them. He gasped. "Are you into girls?!" Barry replied. I said "NO" "I just don't understand why you don't have a man then." he said. "Thank you for the compliment" I responded. With that I ended the conversation and went on to help set up. I came back around him later while he was talking to another guy from Trinity. Barry said "Sarah, do you know this man?" I didn't so he introduced us. I didn't realize what he was up to at first. The three of us talked for a minute then Barry slyly excused himself from the conversation. Later he asked me "How'd it work out? Is he your man now?!" I had to explain to him that relationships are not that simple though I appreciated his concern. A wonderful conversation and hopefully new friend was a result of his effort. I was laughing so hard! Add this to the list of reasons the guys in the park are not just homeless men, they are my friends and I love how much my friends love me.
